Today is January 1st, 2025. To sum up the state of humanity in America as succinctly as possible – a few weeks ago a handsome, young ivy league student shot and killed a health insurance company CEO and it was the most hopeful thing that has happened in a while in the eyes of a lot of people, a month before we re-elected a convicted felon/sexual assaulter/billionaire/fascist who provoked his followers to overthrow the previous election because of false claims that the election was stolen to run the country, majority of us are fully addicted to a handheld device containing all the world information, watching countless hours of videos of strangers seeking attention in various ways, we all feel pretty tired, anxious, overworked, underpaid and not really sure about where it’s all going but we keep pushing to cultivate the empire of “ME” in opposition to all the other “ME’s” competing for infinite space with infinite resources. Pretty much everything is owned by a couple of companies. Everything is getting more expensive. We’re all hiding behind humor and very quick hits of dopamine. The #1 song on the billboard charts right now is “All I Want For Christmas Is You” By Mariah Carey which was released 30 years ago.
So, WTF Happened?
Let’s start from the very beginning.
Adam. Eve. A beautiful garden. An apple. A law against consuming this apple. Free will. Hunger. Curiosity.
In the battle between the law and hunger, hunger won.
Why? Because at the end of the day were too smart to understand were not individuals, and not smart enough to challenge the mechanism that does our thinking.
To some extent, we all have a breaking point where we will have no choice to put ourself and our loved ones first, over all.
So what happens when we all are perpetually under this pressure? As if it could all go away if we don’t fall in line?
We become vulnerable, desperate, survival-mode.
Well, a few people have figured this out, and a few of that few had the means to create massive fortresses around themselves. Whether physical or imaginary. So that they can be as far as humanly possible to the threats of survivalism that we all come from.
Ever have $13 dollars left in your bank account and you are sort of like “Well, fuck it, might as well just spend the rest on something to make me a little happy”.
Ever have $13 million in your bank account and wake up everyday stressing that it could all go away since the complexity of your life has increased on the same curve as your wealth? Having more, means more to lose which means more to protect which means more fear which means more desire for control to cultivate an illusion of peace.
Wouldn’t wish it upon anyone really.
I think I have the wits to be a multi-millionaire, but i just don’t care.
I got my life to a place I like and I am good there. I would rather just maintain it than expand it. In any moment where I’ve tried to i learned it was not worthwhile.
Ok, we’re losing track here because my brain and attention span is destroyed probably from a childhood eating pounds of sugar with food coloring, and the greater part of a decade scrolling thru a bunch of stuff i don’t give a shit about unconsciously.
What is the point.
We are here because of individualism. I am me, and you are you. Or so we think.
Individualism amongst the elite via the greed that runs everything.
Individualism in the common folk via “constant competition to survive the best” with illusions of success that most won’t ever reach.
Individualism in our inability to organize.
Individualism in our unwillingness to organize.
Individualism in us being so beat down and consumed with our own shit that we can’t even afford to care for one another.
We are here because our perception of the world is fragmented into a billion pieces.
We are here because we focus small-mindedly so much on the miniscule things that divide us and ignorance of the gigantic, larger than life things that unite us.
Is it our fault? No, per say.
A lot of it is in the hands of the few with most. Which could have been any of us.
We’re all prone to it.
We see it manifest in the smallest ways no matter how poor or rich you are.
It is a psychological defect.
It is a missed point.
It is at the root of everything.
It is why everything sucks.
It is also why everything is beautiful.
It really depends on where you look and how you are when you are looking at it.
So, WTF is the answer?
Community. Immediate surroundings.
It’s very easy to fall into this overwhelming task to fix the world since we have access to everything happening everywhere all the time. Meanwhile we neglect to look out our own window and tend to what it is we actually encounter on a daily basis. And through this, houses become neglected, streets become neglected, neighborhoods become neglected, cities become neglected, etc. forever.
It starts with you.
“Be the change you wish to see in the world”
Don’t laugh at it because you’re too afraid to do it, or to beat down to think you matter. You do. It all matters. Everything matters.
The way you are to people. It can water the flower or fuel the fire.
Just like we spread gossip and disease, we also spread love and kindness in the same ways.
Because WE ARE ALL CONNECTED. It’s not woo-woo bullshit.
You matter. Everything you do matters.
What is 8 billion people besides 8 billion people?
The structure of everything has wired us to nihilism. Defeatist. So we can cooperate and take the paths of least resistance, the easy way. Netflix. Spotify. Walmart.
“I’m not gonna change shit so let me save a few bucks”
“I can’t afford to not go with the cheapest option”
What can I do right now?
GIVE A SHIT.
Care.
Care about everything you do. Everyone you see.
They are you.
It will all make sense one day if it doesn’t now.
